Though NHLers and get the headline, the real stars of this story are the people of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. They rallied around one of their own in a very special way earlier this week.The community mobilized to help 7-year-old Bryan Carroll, who was diagnosed with leukemia. It is believed to be incurable. However, when his father mentioned in an offhand comment that the backyard his family enjoys spending much of their time in needed repairs, a light bulb went off for a family friend.A Kevin Love Jersey neighbor started a Go Fund Me page to help give the familys backyard a makeover. Days later the funds were raised, local busine ses helped donate materials and dozens of volunteers signed on to help out. And all the while the Carroll Family had no idea this was happening. :Everybody here just wanted to do something, said family friend Leanne Christie, who started the online campaign.For about five hours, volunteers young and old went to work laying sod, painting, cutting tree branches, putting together furniture and planting flowers.Bryans family was unaware of the busy work in their backyard; they spent the day travelling by train in a private car because Bryan loves trains.The family arrived home to a beautiful new backyard, complete with new sod, new lawn furniture, a fire pit and a bunch of new toys including water guns. Shortly after the family arrived home, Bryan received another incredible surprise. Crosby and MacKinnon, both former No. 1 draft picks from the city of Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia, dropped by to say hello to Bryan. They even picked up some of the new water guns and played along.And if you think this was just some sort of publicity stunt for the and stars, the Global News cameras were actually not in the backyard anymore when they showed up. Theres little time to do all the things they want to do to improve their home and enjoy whatever time they have.
